Kativasthi

The word Kathi refers to lower and Vasthi means to retain. Kativasthi is a popular ayurvedic treatment in which specially prepared warm medicated oil is retained over low back area within a boundary made out of black gram power. It is done for a period of 45 minutes. The oil is changed at regular intervals to maintain its warmth. Later a gentle massage is given in the area. The warmth and the healing properties of the medicinal oils are made used in this process. It is effective in treating lower back pain and is beneficial in conditions like osteoporosis and rheumatic arthritis. The treatment reduces pain and inflammation, relieves rigidity of muscles, nourishes and strengthens bones ligaments and connective tissues in the lumbosacral region.
