Dhara

Sirodhara or Dhara is otherwise known as Sirasekam is a method by which a steady and continuous flow of medicated oil is poured on the forehead of the patient from a vessel hung above the head. It is one of the many special types of treatment widely practiced in the ayurveda system.

It is of three types namely:-
– Ksheeradhara (Dhara with medicated milk)
– Takradhara (Dhara with medicated butter milk)
– Tailadhara (Dhara with medicated oil)

The patient is made to lie down in the wooden basin (Taila-Droni), after anointing his head and body with suitable medicated oils .His head should rest in a slightly elevated position. The oil is allowed to drip down and run through the hair and scalp. The vessel is refilled with this oil and the procedure will be continued for 30-40 minutes.
It relaxes the body, aids memory and promotes sleep. It benefits chronic headache and migraines, improves hearing and clears nasal problems.
