Rejuvenate and Revitalize with Nourishing Ayurvedic Rice Bundle Therapy

Njavarakizhi the refreshing and revitalizing massage is one of traditional rejuvenation treatment forms of the Astavaidya tradition in Kerala .It is a procedure which involves fomentation of the body by the application of certain medicinal drugs along with Njavara a special variety of rice with medicinal properties.. Treatment starts with the application of a generous amount of oil to the head and the body and then massaged using boluses made of njavara rice wrapped in linen or cotton. The boluses are dipped in milk and brewed herbal decotion.

The massage is continued in 7 postures. After massaging, all the bollus bags are opened out and the remaining rice pudding is taken and applied to the body of the patient by rubbing it with hands. After a short while the pudding sticking to the body is removed by scrapping with edge of leaves of coconut palm. Oil on the head is removed by gentle wiping with a dry cloth. Patient is given bath after some time.

This treatment promotes skin health as it rehydrates dull skill. It is also used as an anti aging therapy. It alleviates rheumatism, joint stiffness, cures neurological disorders, strengthens nerves and nourishes the body.
