About Kerala
Kerala is a state on the southern tip of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956 by combining the Malayalam speaking areas. The state popularly called ‘God’s Own Country’ is also known as Parashurama Kshetram. Keralolpathy, the 17th century Malayalam work mentions that the land of Kerala was recovered from the sea by Sage Parasurama. The state mostly experiences a humid tropical wet climate and is blessed with monsoons. The Western Ghats a continuous range of mountains play a vital role in the monsoons. There are about 44 major rivers in the state. The state is famous for its back waters. Paddy fields, rubber and tea plantations, spice gardens and natural vegetation make the land green and lush. The long coastline has many beaches which are popular tourist destinations.
